Doodles

In school, I would doodle in my notebook, and in journalism, I’d doodle during news meetings. My ADHD brain has two sides: one that impedes listening (the child) and one that needs to listen (the adult). To focus effectively, I need to distract the child part so the adult part can listen. Doodling does the trick, preventing me from daydreaming. When I look like I’m not listening, I'm actually at my best. An editor once asked me to stop drawing and pay attention, and I explained that if they wanted me to stop listening, they should have me stop doodling. You'll notice several notes scribbled around them.
